About our Trip

Welcome to the Team Honduras Summer 2011 blog! We will be leaving in less than 6 days on July 9th, 2011 to fly to Honduras for a month long missions trip. Please check back regularly for updates once we're gone. For now, here is some info about the trip and our team.

Around January, 2011, our team assembled and has been training together over the last four months to prepare for the ministry God has called us to in Siguatepeque, Honduras this summer. The five of us who will be there the full four weeks all attend either The Youth Group or the College and Career Group at Grace Bible Church in Pleasant Hill, CA.

Our team:
  • Jeremy Odegaard (first week)
  • Seth Axen
  • Andruw Martinez
  • Bryanna Scarpace
  • Wade Bedinger
  • Amber Pilling
In the last week, we will be joined by Pastor Tony Sanelli from GBC who will be teaching at a conference at MEDA and will be returning with the team.

What we will be doing:
We will be traveling July 9th to Siguatepeque to minister the gospel through our lives and words to the church and community there. This includes running two VBS programs, helping put on a youth camp, performing building maintenance and cleaning, living with and shadowing local missionaries, evangelism, and finding ways to build relationships with and serve the local churches and community. We will be returning on August 8th.

Our contacts there are missionaries and local pastors who are supported by our church. Many of these are affiliated with the MEDA (Ministerios Evangelicos de las Americas) center in Siguatepeque which is devoted to training pastors in how to study and preach the Bible.

Purpose:
The ultimate purpose of the trip is to magnify God by sharing and living out the gospel as we work with children, youth, the church, and the unsaved in Honduras.

The goal of the internship aspect of the trip is for us to learn first hand what it is to be a missionary in a foreign country and to help us to grow spiritually now and also to consider how God might want to use us in the future both as missionaries in everyday life or abroad. This trip is a stepping stone between the traditional week long building and ministry trips our church has gone to Mexico for and a longer team venture.

If you're a Christian, we ask that you be a part of the team by partnering with us in prayer. God truly does listen to and work through the prayers of His people, and so we genuinely need your prayers. If you're not a Christian and have either stumbled across this blog by accident or know one of us, we ask that you read our posts with the knowledge that our greatest desire is to see the name of Jesus Christ praised by all peoples. It is this desire that drives us to Honduras and gives us hearts of love and compassion for the people there whom we don't even know yet. We pray that you would encounter the living Christ as we share what He does in our lives and through our feeble efforts.

We've agreed on three overarching prayer requests for this trip:
  • A focus on Christ and desire for His glory
  • A Spirit of love and unity among our team
  • Effectiveness in ministry and boldness in sharing the gospel
Once the trip is underway, I'm sure we'll have much more to share.
